Expand your inReach. Unlock the web.
reChain turns your Garmin inReach into a low-bandwidth gateway to GRIB weather files and a live, web-connected AI assistant — even far offshore.
Why reChain?
Your Garmin inReach is an incredible safety device. But by design, it only sends and receives short text messages. No GRIB files. No web browser. No real-time information beyond the basic forecast.
reChain changes that. It acts as a lightweight gateway between your inReach and the online world: GRIB weather, news, technical help, navigation tips, and more — all compressed into satellite-friendly messages.
What reChain enables at sea?
Think of reChain as a small, quiet crew member that lives on shore, with internet access and an AI brain — whose only job is to answer your questions and deliver the data you ask for, through your inReach.
GRIB weather via Saildocs
Send a classic Saildocs request. reChain retrieves the GRIB file, compresses it, slices it into tiny pieces, and sends the chunks back to your inReach.
With the reChain Grib iOS app, those fragments are decoded and reassembled into a standard GRIB file you can open in your weather software.
Web-connected AI assistant
Ask almost anything you would normally search online: global weather trends, technical repairs, routing hints, news headlines, translations, health questions, local info, and more.
reChain queries a live AI and sends back a short, clear answer optimized for satellite messaging.
Minimal friction, no setup
No new hardware, no complicated configuration. You simply send an email from your inReach to jcskipper.rechain@gmail.com , and reChain figures out what you need — GRIB or AI.
All replies are sent back through the secure Garmin reply link embedded in your original messages.
reChain Grib — free companion iOS app
InReach messages are tiny. Rechain compresses GRIB files and sends them in chunks. The reChain Grib iOS app is the missing piece: it turns those text fragments back into a real, usable GRIB file on your iPhone.
How reChain works?
From your point of view, reChain is simple: you send one email, you get one answer. Behind the scenes, a lot is happening — automatically.
Send
From your inReach, send a message to jcskipper.rechain@gmail.com . It can be a Saildocs request or a natural language question.
Detect
reChain receives the email, identifies whether it is a GRIB request or an AI question, and decides which engine to use.
Fetch
For GRIB: reChain talks to Saildocs. For AI: it queries a web-connected assistant that condenses the answer for satellite usage.
Reply
reChain sends the GRIB chunks or AI answer back via the secure Garmin reply URL. The message appears on your inReach device.

FAQ
Does my inReach need any special configuration?
No. If your inReach can already send emails, you just add jcskipper.rechain@gmail.com as a contact and start messaging.
Does this work offshore without internet?
Yes. reChain is built for situations where your boat has no internet connectivity at all, only the satellite link provided by your inReach.
Can I ask anything to the AI?
You can ask almost any question you would normally search online. Answers are kept short and practical to fit satellite constraints.
Is the reChain Grib app mandatory?
Only if you want to rebuild GRIB files. For AI answers, no app is required — messages go directly from reChain to your inReach and back.
